Site Council Minutes
January 22, 2007
Reviewed and revised the minutes and made corrections suggested by Bobbie Jaffe-Nash. Motioned that the parent connections issue be reviewed.
PTSA Report-
· Donations of money to the culminating project bought food and refreshments for volunteers and presenters which were much appreciated.
· Nomination committee for officers will be conducted in the future
· The upcoming committee will discuss teacher grant requests
ASB Report
· ASB has not been holding regular meetings as the leadership is currently going through transition as the president and vice president are both ineligible for the leadership position
· Culminating projects were presented by 82 students on January 18th. 73 of these students passed
· The Sehome Drama Department had auditions for the next Sehome production on January 22nd
· Sehome bridge competition finished with the makers of the top five bridges being offered positions on the Sehome Bridge Team
Principal’s Report
· Briefed Site Council on the upcoming Getting to Graduation Night on February 12th
· Introduced new parental survey that all parents are being asked to complete; the survey is online and will be presented to parents during Getting to Graduation Night
· Phyllis Textor announced that there was a parent chat from 6:30 to 8:00 on January 23rd
· Culminating project class was very successful with almost all its students presenting and passing on January 18th.
· Discussed possibility of making culminating project class count for occupational education credit
Parent Connections…discussion
· 5 main ideas to help with parent education are:
- Parent FAQ hotline
- Parent Support Night
- Mentoring program for students
- Recruiting members for parent mentoring program
· Discussed danger of forcing parents to answer inappropriate or awkward questions through a general hotline
· Discussed possibility of making mentors an FAQ hotline with a response system for questions outside the general scope of the FAQ
· Discussed possibility of clubs writing up monthly happenings for the online mariner memo
· Steve Globerman suggested that parent connection needed to be focused and could use feedback from parents on what types of questions are likely to cause problems as well as how well the current system works
· Multiple members suggested that the school website needs to be reworked to increase user friendliness
· Each site council member is to come back with 5 possible questions parents might have and how the answers could be found online to these questions
Further Business
· Commendation to Steve Globerman for being an excellent facilitator and suggestion that meeting would run more smoothly by keeping the same facilitator between meetings
· Phyllis Textor sent home information on the current Sehome Telephone Prompt for review and correction by the site council members
